The Dutch royal family posed for their annual summer photographs at the weekend at beach bar La Cantina on Zuiderstrand in The Hague, with a new adorable face stealing the show.

King Willem-Alexander, queen Maxima and their three daughters, princesses Amalia, Alexia and Ariane, were joined for the first time by Mambo, their two-year-old poodle mix.

The annual photo session marks the start of the royal family’s summer break and is meant to ensure that their actual holiday remains free of Dutch paparazzi.

Mambo joined the family in October 2021, announced by a post by the family on World Animal Day, but didn’t make an appearance in last year’s photoshoot.

The family had intended to take their 2022 photo on the beach but that plan was scuppered by the weather. Instead, they moved to the Noordeinde palace in The Hague.

The photoshoot took place the day before King Willem-Alexander formally apologised for the Netherlands’ slave trading history at the commemoration of the abolition of slavery in Amsterdam.
