The amount of electricity and heat derived from solar power in the Netherlands rose by 46% in 2022, national statistics agency CBS said on Friday.

That means solar power now accounts for 3.3% of the energy used in the Netherlands last year, the CBS said.

The increase in production by private households overtook that of commercial sources such as solar farms for the first time last year. Homes produced 49% more solar power last year and companies 45%.

The Netherlands also produces more solar energy per head of the population than any other country in the EU. Germany and Denmark are in second and third place.
