Finance ministry removes Twitter post after racist onslaught
The finance ministry has withdrawn an explainer video from Twitter after a stream of racist comments were made about the presenter.
Finance minister Sigrid Kaag said in a follow-up message that the comments showed “once again, that racism is deeply rooted in our society”.
The civil servant in the video was outlining measures the ministry is taking to improve consumer protection when buying credit.
The ministry said it was withdrawing the video to “protect the worker” and to “prevent giving a further platform to such comments”. The reactions were “pure hatred”, said Kaag, who has also been the victim of online threats.
