AZ supporters jailed for storming stand after West Ham match
Several AZ football supporters who attempted to storm the main stand after last month’s defeat by West Ham in their Conference League semi-final have been given short jail terms for their part in the trouble.
Alkmaar football club AZ has already banned 43 fans from its stadium after they tried to break through the barrier at the main stand where family and friends of West Ham supporters were sitting.
A 38-year-old man from Heerhugowaard was jailed for eight days because he was caught on camera kicking a West Ham supporter in the back “with full force”. He then pulled the English supporter off the steps by his trousers, the public prosecutor told Tuesday’s fast-track hearing.
Two other men were jailed for threatening or attacking riot police officers. One, aged 32, was jailed for 14 days for threatening a riot police officer, kicking his shield and giving him the finger. A third man, aged 19 and from Alkmaar, was jailed for 15 days, given 80 hours community service and banned from the stadium for a year.
In total, seven men are appearing in court in connection with the trouble after the game on Tuesday and a further seven will be heard on Wednesday. Police have arrested 19 people in connection with the trouble.
