Warm, wet weather will create an ‘explosion of mosquitoes’

The warm, humid weather on its way in the next few days will create ideal conditions for an ‘explosion of mosquitoes’, weather bureau Weeronline warned on Tuesday.

The first mosquitoes have already been spotted following the 20 Celsius temperatures last week. That, combined with heavy rain, is creating perfect breeding grounds in buckets, on flat roofs, and empty plant pots, Weeronline said.

The next week at least will see temperatures of around 20 Celsius inland, with sunny spells and showers and the KNMI weather bureau sees little change well into May.

The peak for mosquito activity is August.
