200 tips so far in campaign to identify 22 murdered women
Dutch police have received 51 tips so far in their efforts to identify 22 murdered women and girls who died as long ago as 1976.
In total, Dutch German and Belgian police have had over 200 tips in the week since the campaign was launched together with Interpol. The tips include several possible names as well as useful information about clothes and jewellery, police said.
All 22 women were almost certainly murdered and some were thought to be teenagers at the time. Nine of the bodies were found in the Netherlands.
Details on each case have been made available on www.interpol.int/IM, showing facial reconstructions of some of the murdered women, as well as videos and pictures of jewellery and clothing which were discovered at sites where the women’s remains were abandoned.
It is the first time Interpol has issued ‘black notice’ details about the cases, a police notification system that includes all details that might help to identify the victims.
