Oil company Shell is out of favour with the under-30s when it comes to picking their favourite employer, according to research by Rotterdam-based Intelligence Group into the country’s top places to work.

Overall, Shell is in third place in the ranking but is only in 14th place on the young adult’s list, the NRC reported on Wednesday. The ranking has not yet been published on the IG website.

The tech sector performs well among men and people with a university degree while KLM is a popular choice for people with vocational training. The care services, such as regional health boards, are also a popular choice among women, the NRC said.

Schiphol airport is a surprise climber in the ranking, moving up from 57th to 20th place and is popular across all ages and levels of education. The NS too, is up from 12th to 8th place.

The government remains top of the ranking for the fourth year in a row, followed by the police. Chip machinery maker ASML is in fifth place and financial services group ING is in sixth.

The ranking is based on the thoughts of a representative group of 16,000 people.
