2022 was a record year for the Tikkie micro-payment system
The Dutch sent more than 130 million ‘Tikkies’ this year, with an average value of €41.84 and a rise of €3 on 2021, ABN Amro said this week.
The micro payment system’s busiest day was November 25, when 350,000 Tikkies were sent and 530,000 payments were made, the bank said.
That was the day the Dutch football team kicked off their World Cup campaign against Ecuador, and a large number of the payment requests were labelled ‘beer’ and ‘football’.
The payment app, launched in 2016, is also increasingly popular with companies and 25,000 are now using the system to send invoices.
