Iced tea, potato salad and breakfast cereal up for misleading product award

Jumbo iced teas, a potato and egg salad, and a Kellogg’s breakfast cereal are the three nominees for this year’s most misleading product award, handed out for the past 12 years by lobby group Foodwatch after a public vote.
Jumbo Ice Teas, with names such as Inner Beauty and Feel Immune imply that they are good for your hair and nails but are little more than sugar water with added vitamins, Foodwatch’s Nicole van Gemert told news website Nu.nl
Also nominated is Ambachtelijke Salade Oma’s Aardappel-Scharrelei, or ‘grandmother’s hand-crafted potato and free range egg salad’ which is full of industrial ingredients and flavourings.
Third on the list is Kellogg’s All Bran Fruit’n Fibre which has cut the weight in a box by 25% but only put down the cost slightly, resulting in a far higher kilo price.
The shortlist, drawn up following tips from consumers, did have four products this year, but Toko Lien has already renamed its ginger syrup as ‘syrup with ginger flavouring’ after being alerted to the fact it was up for the prize, Van Gemert said.
‘This is the award no-one wants,’ she told the website.
