Man arrested for helping two fugitives escape secure clinic
A man has been arrested for helping two men break out of a secure psychiatric clinic a month ago, police have confirmed.
The man was detained together with one of the fugitives, Luciano D., after police stopped a car at a petrol station in The Hague on June 30, Het Parool reported.
He is suspected of playing a key role in helping D., 24, and 27-year-old Sherwan Benshomin Windster escape from the Pompekliniek in Nijmegen eight days earlier. Windster is still on the run.
The two men escaped in a white VW Golf after slipping through a hole that had been cut in the perimeter fence using a grinder which police found had been rented by the arrested man under his own name the week before. Work started three years ago to erect a second fence to improve security, but the project is still not finished.
