Dutch women take hockey world title with win over Argentina
The Dutch women’s field hockey team have taken the world title for the third time in succession with a 3-1 win over Argentina on Sunday evening.
It is the ninth time Oranje have won the title in the 15 years that the World Cup has taken place. The gold medal comes at the end of a difficult period for the Dutch women, whose coach Alyson Annan left earlier this year after allegations of bullying.
The game also marked the official retirement of captain Marloes Keetels, who has been part of the national squad since 2013 and has 176 caps.
Meanwhile at the European football championships in England, the Dutch women’s team have qualified for the quarter finals after winning their last group game against Switzerland 4-1. They meet France in the first knock-out round on July 23.
