Weather bureau KNMI has issued a yellow weather warning for eastern and southern areas of the country, one day after the first official summer’s day of the year.

Thunderstorms and hail are forecast on Tuesday afternoon in all provinces apart from Noord-Holland, Flevoland, Friesland and Groningen, while temperatures could climb to a sultry 27 degrees.

The KNMI said strong gusts could also be experienced in the affected areas. The weather system will move from west to east before crossing over into Germany at around 5pm.

On Sunday the central weather station at De Bilt recorded a temperature of 25 degrees, marking the first official summer’s day of 2022.

The unsettled conditions are set to continue for the rest of the week, with further thunderstorms forecast on Thursday and Friday, before temperatures drop to around 20 degrees at the weekend.
