Attje Kuiken wins vote to lead parliamentary Labour party
The nine PvdA parliamentarians have chosen Attje Kuiken to be the new parliamentary party leader, following the surprise resignation of Lilianne Ploumen earlier this month.
Kuiken, who has been an MP since 2006, beat the only other candidate, Henk Nijboer, in Friday’s vote.
Kuiken, 44, is the the party’s former spokeswoman on refugees and immigration and has more recently focused on healthcare. She was also a major critic of former health minister Hugo de Jonge and his role with the face mask scandal.
One of the main jobs facing Kuiken will be to further cement the party’s relationship with GroenLinks.
The job of national party leader is still open and will be decided on by PvdA members later.
