Police officer standing for FVD leaves post over ‘Nazi’ comments
A police officer standing as a candidate for the far-right Forum voor Democratie party has left the force after calling for the Dutch government to meet the same fate as the Nazis over its coronavirus policies.
Brian Geertshuis posted messages online on a Porsche fans’ forum under the name Brian951 attacking the former health minister, Hugo de Jonge, and other government members.
In one message he wrote: ‘I look forward to the day when the bastards responsible for this have their heads on the chopping block. That also eventually happened with the Nazis.’
Oost-Nederland police division told RTV Oost that Geertshuis, 47, who is the lead candidate for FVD in Hengelo, Overijssel, had not been sacked but his contract had been ended ‘by mutual consent with the employee’.
Divisional leader Karlijn Baalman said Geertshuis’s remarks had been investigated and found to ‘breach our professional code’.
‘Police officers are role models in our society. We expect them to be unifying and neutral in their public statements, in line with our professional code,’ she said.
