There were mixed fortunes for Dutch clubs in European competition on Thursday night, with PSV losing 3-0 to Real Sociedad. The loss means the Eindhoven side is now out of the Europa League competition but will take part in the next stage of the Confererence League.

Feyenoord beat Maccabi Haifa 2-1 and AZ booked a 1-0 victory over Danish side Randers, putting both clubs top of their groups and into the next stage of the Conference League competition.

Vitesse of Arnhem have to wait for the outcome of the postponed match between Tottenham Hotspur and Stade Rennais to find out their fate, after beating Mura 3-1.

The wins in Europe this week for Ajax, Feyenoord, AZ and Vitesse have given Dutch football a record number of points on Uefa’s key coefficient list. The Netherlands now has 14,200 points ahead of the winter break.

The more points a country has on the coefficient list, the more clubs will qualify for European competition next season.

The Netherlands is currently in seventh place in the ranking behind Portugal but is close to moving into sixth place – which would mean two clubs qualifying directly for the Champions League group stage.
