University education and culture minister Ingrid van Engelshoven has become the fourth member of the outgoing government to announce she will not be part of the next cabinet.

Van Engelshoven, who represents the Liberal democratic party D66, told the AD in an interview that she found being a minister ‘super interesting and valuable’ but that she had decided not to seek a second term in office.

‘Being a minister was the crown on my work for the party,’ she said. Prior to joining Mark Rutte’s third cabinet, she was a member of The Hague city council’s executive board.

Schools minister Arie Slob, junior health minister Paul Blokhuis and legal protection minister Sander Dekker have also announced they will not be returning to the cabinet.
