Police in The Hague arrested 13 people during a protest outside Tuesday night’s press conference on new coronavirus rules.

Several hundred people took part in the demonstration outside the justice ministry as prime minister Mark Rutte and Hugo de Jonge outlined tougher measures aimed at curbing a new wave of infections.

Police said officers were attacked with stones and fireworks and had to use batons to disperse the crowd.

Extra security was deployed at the ministry on Turfmarkt after calls were made on social media earlier in the day to protest outside the building by banging pots and pans and shouting.
