Parts of the Netherlands no longer red on ECDC coronavirus map
Parts of the Netherlands are no longer red on the EU’s coronavirus map of Europe, now infection rates have dropped sharply.
Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe and Zeeland have now been downgraded to amber, although the rest of the country remains red. Two weeks ago, the country was almost entirely dark red as the number of coronavirus cases surged.
The coding is used by other EU countries to decide if they want to impose special coronavirus prevention measures on people from the Netherlands.
Travel organisation expect some countries will now change their regulations. Germany, for example, has already said that people from the Netherlands will no longer have to quarantine if they have not been vaccinated.
While the Netherlands has been downgraded, some popular tourist destinations such as Berlin have now shifted from green to orange. Spain and most of the Mediterranean coast remain dark red, as does Crete.
