More gold for Paralympic swimmers and cyclists in Tokyo

Dutch athletes have enjoyed another successful day in the pool and velodrome on the second day of the Paralympics in Tokyo.
Chantalle Zijderveld broke her own world record, set in the semi-finals, as she won the SB9 100m breaststroke convincingly in a time of 1 minute 10.99 seconds, adding to her silver medal at the 50m distance on Wednesday.
Her compatriot Lisa Kruger finished second as Zijderveld avenged Kruger’s surprise victory five years ago in Rio, when Zijderveld had to settle for bronze.
Another world record holder, Rogier Dorsman, took gold in the men’s 400m freestyle, while Liesette Bruinsma won silver over the same distance for women, as American Anastasia Pagonis set a new world record.
Earlier on Thursday partially sighted Larissa Klaassen won the 1,000m time trial on the cycling track with pilot Imke Brommer. Klaassen, who won silver five years ago in Rio, collapsed exhausted on the ground after her victory. ‘It hurts, but pain has never felt so good,’ she said.
After two days the Netherlands stands fifth in the medal table, with five gold medals and three silvers.
