The Dutch sprinters clinched gold and silver on the indoor cycling track on Friday, with Harrie Lavreysen beating Jeffrey Hoogland in the third race of the final.

It was the first individual Olympic medals for both riders, who were earlier part of the Dutch team sprint squad who picked up gold. Lavreysen, hoping for a hat trick, will take part in the keirin on Saturday.

Earlier on the cycling track, a fall by Kirsten Wild kept the Dutch duo out of the medals table in the women’s madison event. Gold went to Britain and the Dutch team finished fourth.

More medals are also on their way on Friday afternoon, as the Dutch women’s hockey team take on Argentina in the final. Sifan Hassan is also in action again in the 1,500 metres.

With 29 medals so far, the Netherlands is just above France and in ninth place on the medals table.
