Skateboarder Candy Jacobs has become the first member of the Dutch Olympic squad to test positive for coronavirus and will now go into quarantine for 10 days.
‘I’m gutted,’ Jacobs, 31, said in a reaction. ‘We were ready for the Olympics, I feel fit and now it is over. I need some time to process this.’
A further eight infections were identified at the Olympic camp on Monday, bringing the total to 79.
The other Dutch skateboarders, a debut sport in Tokyo, did not have direct contact with Jacobs and can still compete, broadcaster NOS reported.
Meanwhile, Dutch gymnast Epke Zonderland, taking part in his fourth Olympics, is said to be suffering from stomach issues which may put his participation in doubt.

‘I cannot eat enough for the energy I need to train properly,’ the 2012 gold medal winner on the high bar told reporters. Zonderland is due to be in action on Saturday.
