And Dumoulin makes it seven in a day: silver in men’s time trial
Tom Dumoulin won the seventh Dutch medal of the day on Wednesday when he picked up a surprising silver in the men’s time trial.
Dumoulin has a difficult period behind him, with injuries and serious doubts about whether to continue his cycling carreer and his decision to take part in the Olympics had been a surprise to some.
Gold went to Slovakia’s Primoz Roglic, Dumoulin’s Jumbo-Visma cycling mate and the bronze to Dennis Rohan of Australia.
Earlier in the day, Annemiek van Vleuten won the women’s time trial for the Netherlands with a 56 second margin over silver medalist Marlen Reusser of Switzerland. Anna van der Breggen crossed the finishing line 1.01 minutes after Van Vleuten to take the bronze.
Four other medals came from the Dutch rowers, who have lost two of their coaches and one team member to coronavirus infections.
Update: Later on Wednesday, Sanne van Dijke won a judo bronze in the up to 70 kilo category.
