With some of the travel restrictions operating in the Netherlands being lifted from Saturday, parents and grandparents from outside the EU are being allowed in to visit their newly-born child or grandchild.

The rule applies to babies born after March 19, 2020. Parents and grandparents will have to complete a government document and provide a birth certificate to enter the country.

Divorced parents from outside the EU will also be able to visit children they have not seen since the same date. They too must fill in a formal declaration.

The Dutch borders were closed to most people from outside the EU on March 19 last year.

The ban on flights from India, South Africa and parts of central and south America also still applies. The ban is due to be reviewed by June 1.
