The number of people being treated in hospital for coronavirus fell to 1,731 in the 24 hours to Saturday morning, according to patient coordination centre LCPS.

That is down almost 90 on Friday’s total, the LCPS said. Just over 600 people are being cared for in an intensive care ward.

The number of positive coronavirus tests also continues to decline, dropping to 3221 overnight, according to figures from public health institute RIVM.

The drop has taken the average number of positive tests over the past week to 4,179 a day, down 28% on the week earlier period.

Around 15 people a day are still dying of coronavirus in the Netherlands. The government’s official death toll remains 15,537 but the true figure, according to national statistics office CBS, is at least 27,000.
