Dutch police dismantled 2,894 marijuana plantations last year, a drop of 704 on 2019 and continuing the downward trend.

However, sharp local differences and a shortage of police manpower make it unlikely that there are fewer plantations overall, police say.

More of the plantations busted last year were outside, rather than hidden in sheds or private homes.

Most plantations – 527 – were found in the police district of Oost-Nederland which covers large parts of rural Gelderland. Amsterdam had the lowest number of busts at 128.
