Spring-like temperatures chase away the cold this weekend

Hot on the heels of the most severe cold snap in a decade, spring is about put in an appearance this weekend bringing sunshine and mild temperatures.

Weerplaza is forecasting temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees in many places while Limburg may be enjoying a whopping 19 degrees on Sunday afternoon.

The spring-like temperatures are early, Weerplaza said, but not unique. February 2020 saw equally high temperatures but accompanied by cloud and rain. This time around, the sun will be shining, the forecaster said.

The northwest will be slightly cooler because the water of the Markermeer, IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea is still very cold and this affects temperatures on land.

The unseasonable weather is the result of warm air coming in from the north of Africa which may also bring some desert sand in its wake.

The fine weather is expected to last at least until Wednesday when temperatures will tumble to between 8 and 12 degrees and some showers are expected, Weeronline predicts.
