Weekly coronavirus infections stable, but 1,116 test positive in Amsterdam

A further 3,597 people in the Netherlands were diagnosed with coronavirus in the week to September 1, according to the latest update from public health institute RIVM.
This is virtually unchanged from a week ago, even though far more people were tested, the RIVM said. In total, 163,000 people had a coronavirus test in the week to Tuesday, up 23,000 on the earlier seven-day period.
The percentage of positive tests fell from 2.5% to 2.2% and the key R factor remains about 1. Half the new infections involved young adults.
Local health boards also report 57 new hospital admissions and 24 more deaths, down from 84 hospitalisations and 32 deaths in the previous week.
The biggest proportion of the new infections were in Amsterdam, where 1,116 people were tested positive for the virus. In Rotterdam, which had led the new wave of infections, 686 people were diagnosed with the virus in the past week, the RIVM said.
