Police investigate after luxury Amsterdam hotel is hit by bullets
Amsterdam police are investigating a shooting at a five star hotel in the centre of the city in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Photos show that the Hotel W on the Spuistraat, where rooms cost around €400 a night, has at least eight bullet holes in its front door and others in the wall of the building. Doors leading to the delivery area of the Albert Heijn supermarket under the hotel were also shot at.
It is still unclear what happened and police are appealing for witnesses. In particular, they want to speak to the passengers of a taxi thought to be in the area at the time.
Last year mayor Femke Halsema closed down a night club situated under the hotel after a hand grenade exploded at its entrance. The club Mad Fox was not formally connected to the hotel, which is part of the Mariott hotel group.
