Police have arrested a man they say is one of the leaders of a crime family based in the Brabant town of Oss.

Toon R, 40, was picked up at a holiday park in Ede, and is described by police as one of Brabant’s most wanted men. He is suspected of involvement in gun running and drugs crime and had been on the run since early November.

That month, police arrested several members of Toon R’s family who were living on a trailer park in Oss. During that raid, police discovered underground chambers which had been used to hide an ‘arsenal of weapons’ including eight Kalashnikovs, two M16 machine guns, a sten gun and six hand guns.

Three men, all related, were arrested – two on the camp itself and one, said to be the ringleader Martien R, in a police roadblock.

Toon and Martien R and five other people arrested in connection with the investigation will appear in court for a pro-forma hearing on Wednesday.
