The Carnaval parade in Eindhoven has been cancelled this weekend due to forecasted high winds.

Carnaval organisers posted a message saying that other activities would still go ahead in a revised order, but their procession was being pulled for safety reasons.

‘The predicted wind strength and gusts that will visit Lampegat make this decision necessary for safety reasons,’ the organisation said in a news release.

Roosendaal’s parade is, however, going ahead with some modifications to the floats, reports the NOS broadcaster. In 2016, the wind caused problems in Brabant and Limburg.

The Dutch celebration, which takes place in the south of the country, traditionally precedes Lent and includes four days of light-hearted festivities and partying.
