Schiphol airport’s chief executive Dick Benschop has said farmers who are pointing at the airport as an important  nitrogen polluter are barking up the wrong tree.

Benschop said he is willing to talk to the farmers, some of whom have threatened on social media to come to the airport on October 29^th and disrupt air traffic.

‘If air traffic is mentioned at all in connection with nitrogen pollution it is only to an amount of 1% or 2%. So they are barking up the wrong tree when they are looking to us for a solution,’ Benschop told broadcaster NOS.

Agractie, the organisation behind Tuesday’s massive demonstration in The Hague, said it did not condone the proposed action.

Benschop said he thinks everybody should contribute to a soluton to the problem but that it would be best done ‘with a cool head and an eye for proportion.’
