Four men arrested in Rotterdam after record-breaking heroin haul in UK
Four men have been arrested in Rotterdam after British police found 1.3 tonnes of heroin hidden on a container ship in Felixstowe harbour. The drugs, a record find for Britain, were hidden in towels and dressing gowns which were heading for Antwerp.
After officers removed the drugs, they returned the container to the vessel, which continued on to Antwerp and docked in the Belgian port city on 1 September.
The shipment was kept under surveillance by Dutch and Belgian law enforcement agencies who followed the container as it was driven by lorry to a warehouse in Rotterdam. ‘Upon arrival, officers moved in and arrested four people who were in the process of unloading the consignment,’ the British crime agency said in a statement.
An NCA investigation has resulted in the largest ever seizure of heroin in the UK, denying vast sums of money to organised crime groups.
