A healthy 3-0 home win against Apollon of Cyprus put PSV Eindhoven in a good position to make the group phase of this season’s Europa League competition, with the away return leg set for next week.

Rotterdam club Feyenoord also put three away against Beer Sheva of Israel, with Leroy Fer making two goals in the second half.

By contrast, AZ of Alkmaar could muster no more than a 1-1 home draw against Antwerp and face more of a struggle to get through the playoffs next week.

The group stage draw takes place on August 30.

Earlier in the week, Ajax was held to a 0-0 away draw against Cyprus league winners APOEL in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier.
