Police raided a flat in Amsterdam overnight near the scene of a shooting earlier in the evening.

A man was shot on Joris Ivensplein in the IJburg district at around 11pm on Sunday. Witnesses told TV station AT5 that they heard a single gunshot and a scooter speeding away.

The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital with a gunshot wound. Police said he was conscious.

At around 2am police used a battering ram and a chainsaw to break down the door of a flat in Erich Salomonstraat, around 100m from the scene of the shooting, but the suspect was not present.

The scooter suspected of having been used in the incident was parked outside the property, NH Nieuws reported.
