More people sign organ donation register but 31% say ‘no’

The number of people included on the Netherlands’ organ donor register rose by 57,000 to 6.4 million in the nine months to the end of 2018, national statistics agency CBS said on Thursday.
Almost six in 10 of those on the register have agreed to donate whatever organs that are useful after their death, 31% have said they do not give permission and 11% are leaving the issue up to relatives.
Women are more likely than men to donate their organs, the CBS said.
The Netherlands will have a new organ donation set-up from next summer – a ‘yes but’ register. Everyone will be included and will be considered a potential donor unless they have specifically said that they do not want to donate their organs after death.
