Utrecht shooting: Police release name and photograph of 37-year-old suspect
Police have circulated photographs of the man suspected of carrying out a shooting on a tram in Utrecht that is reported to have left one person dead and several others injured.
The man was named as 37-year-old Gökmen Tanis, born in Turkey. He is being sought in connection with the incident on the 24 Oktoberplein near the city’s main train station at around 10.45am on Monday.
Police have told the public not to approach the suspect directly, but to call the investigation hotline on 0800 6070.

According to local broadcaster RTV Utrecht Tanis has a history of petty crime but has also faced charges of attempted murder in 2013, when he fired a shot at a building in Kanaleneiland, close to the location of Monday’s shooting.
He was also recently in court for a rape which took place in 2017, the broadcaster said.
