Frenkie de Jong poised to move to Paris Saint Germain: Telegraaf
Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong could be heading for Paris Saint-Germain next summer because the club is willing to pay the required €75m for the 21-year-old, the Telegraaf reported on Friday.
The paper says a delegation from the top French club was in Amsterdam on Thursday for talks about the sale.
The club’s business director Marc Overmars has confirmed that the two sides are in talks, but said nothing has yet been sealed and other clubs are also after the youngster.
De Jong’s business manager Ali Dursun told broadcaster NOS: ‘There is no transfer. It has not been completed.’
British papers have linked De Jong with Manchester City, who are also said to be prepared to pay the asking price, and with Barcelona.
De Jong told the Manchester Evening News earlier this week that he wants to finish this season well with Ajax. ‘Then we will see. Maybe I’ll stay for another year, maybe I’ll leave. But I am not sure,’ he told the paper.
Expensive
If De Jong moves to Paris for €75m, he will be the most expensive outgoing Dutch transfer ever and the second most expensive Dutch footballer. Virgil van Dijk moved from Southampton to Liverpool for €80m at the beginning of this year.
De Jong was bought by Ajax from Willem II for the symbolic sum of €1 in 20015 and has a contract until 2022. He made his debut for the Dutch national team in September.
