Train tickets set to cost more next year due to inflation and btw increase
The price of both ordinary train and season tickets will go up on January 1, due to the annual inflation increase as well as the rise in the lower rate of value added tax (btw).
Train tickets are index linked and second class tickets will cost, on average, 1.8% more next year but first class tickets will not rise in line with inflation. BTW is going up from 6% to 9%, also on January 1.
Dutch railway company NS said the rises are to be regretted because public transport is becoming more expensive when compared with running a car.
