PSV Eindhoven’s decision to field a B team against RKC Waalwijk in their KNVB Cup tie on Tuesday night cost the Eredivisie team dear.

Despite taking the lead twice, last season’s league champions lost 2-3 to the first division side, in front of their home crowd. RKC had also put out NAC in the first round.

Coach Mark van Bommel  said after the game he had thought the reserves were better prepared than they were.

‘The only excuse I could perhaps make is that they have never played in this line-up before,’ he said. ‘But you still have to win. We were better than RKC in every position.’
