Foodora to stop Dutch operations after failing to find a buyer
Meal delivery service Foodora is closing its Dutch operations after parent company Delivery Hero failed to find a buyer, website Nu.nl said on Thursday.
Staff who will lose their jobs have been informed, as has the FNV trade union, Nu.nl said.
The company has been active in the Netherlands for three years but has failed to become one of the bigger players, despite ‘reasonable investment’, Vincent Hosman, manager of the Dutch unit, said in a press release.
The company’s activities in the Netherlands will be wound down slowly and customers can still place orders.
Delivery Hero said earlier this month that it wanted to sell its units in Italy, France, Australia and the Netherlands to focus on markets in which it has a leading role.
Takeaway.com, Uber Eats and Deliveroo dominate the Dutch home meal delivery market.
