Amsterdam football club Ajax move into the third and final qualifying round for this year’s Champions League competition with a 1-3 win over Sturm Graz in Austria on Wednesday night. Ajax also won the first home leg 2-0.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar put away two while new signing Dusan Tadic scored his first goal for the Amsterdammers.

Ajax will meet Standard Liege in the third qualifying round. If they win, they will take part in the Champions League group stage for the first time since the 2014/15 season. A defeat sees Ajax taking part in the Europa League.

‘There is no reason yet to cheer,’ Huntelaar told broadcaster NOS after the game. ‘We are not there yet.’

‘We must now focus on Standard Liege, our next opponent. They are a better side, so we have to play better as well.’
