Travel firm FlyOrange said on Friday it had gone bust and that all flights booked with the company had been cancelled, stranding some passengers in Morocco and leaving hundreds without a summer holiday.

FlyOrange, which offers flights from Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Brussels to various destinations in Morocco, said on its website that it  is ‘sorry for the problems’. It is unclear how many passengers are affected, but the flight schedule is for 18 flights a week, broadcaster NOS said.

Angry passengers took to the company’s Facebook page to complain. Mustapha Amrani said he had been saving all year to take his children to Morocco. ‘I’m speechless. My heart is broken,’ he said.

The company says the bankruptcy stems from a conflict with one of its three partners – thought to be Aviatrade from Portugal. ‘They are not taking care of the flights, which have already been paid for,’ the company said. ‘We are not in a position to meet our obligations to our passengers.’

Aviatrade, however, told RTL Nieuws that FlyOrange had not made the proper payments.

According to the Financieele Dagblad, FlyOrange is not a member of the ANVR travel industry insurance scheme and it is unlikely anyone will get their money back.
