The KNMI weather bureau issued a code yellow weather warning for the entire country on Wednesday, saying more storms are likely in the afternoon. As on Tuesday, the storms will bring heavy rain and hail but they are likely to be more isolated, the KNMI said.

There are wide local differences and large parts of the country will remain sunny and dry, particularly in the west.

Tuesday’s storms left a trail of damage across the country, insurance companies said on Wednesday. However, it is difficult to estimate the total bill because of the localised nature of the storms, the VvV said.

The rain was particularly heavy in a broad sweep across the country from Deventer to Utrecht, and from Rotterdam to Barendrecht, news agency ANP reported. In some places, hailstones measuring over one centimetre in diameter were recorded.

The KNMI says the weather on Thursday will be similar to Wednesday but by Friday and the weekend it will be cooler, with scattered showers and some sunshine.
