The Italian football federation has fined football club Lazio €50,000 for an incident in which supporters posted stickers with an image of Anne Frank wearing a jersey belonging to arch rival AS Roma, broadcaster NOS reports.

The incident took place when Lazio played a home game against Cagliari in October last year. Hardcore supporters of Lazio, a club founded by fascist leader Benito Mussolini, also wrote anti-Semitic slogans on the wall of the stadium, which it shares with AS Roma, NOS writes.

The Italian government condemned the actions of the Lazio supporters, who are well-known for their right-wing sympathies, at the time. Twelve supporters were banned from entering the stadium for five years and 1 was banned for eight years. The actions of seven other supporters are still being investigated.
