Dutch football coach Bert van Marwijk joins Australia for the World Cup
Dutch football coach Bert van Marwijk is to join the national Australian squad as part of the team for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Van Marwijk, 65, replaces Ange Postecoglou, who left the post in November after leading the Australians through the qualification stages.
Van Marwijk left Saudi Arabia after they qualified for the event, after failing to agree a new contract and telling Dutch media that he did not get enough freedom to work in his own way.
‘I’m not only going to the World Cup. No, I want to win all our matches as well,’ Van Marwijk told reporters after his Australian appointment.
Among some of his achievements are a UEFA Cup win with Feyenoord in 2002. He also managed the Netherlands squad from 2008 until June 2012.
