Volleyball coach arrested for filming young players changing
A 27-year-old volleyball coach from Berlicum near Den Bosch has been arrested on suspicion of filming teenage players while they were getting changed, the Eindhovens Dagblad said on Friday.
So far three girls, aged 14 and 15, have made a formal complaint against the man, but it is not yet clear how many girls have reported being filmed. A number of images have been seized from the man’s house, the paper said.
He was arrested at the end of May but on Wednesday judges ruled he should no longer be held in custody and released him. The public prosecution department is considering an appeal, the paper said.
The Dutch volleyball association has confirmed the man was a coach at the Dutch beach volleyball school NBS in Eindhoven, which he helped found. He did have a certificate of good behaviour, or VOG, which is supposed to guarantee coaches are of good character, news agency ANP said.
In March, the Dutch sports federation NOC*NSF set up a committee to investigate cases of sexual abuse within sport.
The NOC*NSF has been prompted to launch the investigation after hundreds of footballers came forward in Britain to talk about being abused by trainers. And last December, Dutch cyclist Petra de Bruin told Nieuwsuur she had been abused by her trainer for years.
