A man who ran over and killed a three-year old on Koningsdag in Breda last year should go back to jail for absconding from a treatment programme, said Dutch prosecutors on Thursday.

Elias A. received an 18 month sentence last November, six of which were suspended, and had been taking a clinical treatment programme for psychological issues as part of this. But he left after three days, reports AFP.

The public prosecution service told a court in Breda that he should, in this case, return to jail. The man reportedly agreed, saying: ‘After three days I thought: I don’t want to be here. If I had to choose, I would rather be in prison.’

Elias A. had been driving too fast through a residential area in Breda, in the southern part of the Netherlands.
