Eindhoven airport parking garage collapses, weeks before opening date

Building group Bam has launched an investigation into the collapse of the multi-storey car park now under construction at Eindhoven airport on Saturday evening.

Bam, which is building the garage, said the cause remained unclear, the Telegraaf reported on Monday.

There were no injuries because the building crew had just left the site. The car park, which has four storeys, was due to open in July.

The building, which is owned by the airport authority, is being built to replace an older parking area. It will have parking capacity for 800 vehicles as well as a café and restaurant space. The cost is put at some €13m.

A spokesman for Eindhoven airport said on Sunday that it had no comment on the collapse because the building was still in the hands of the construction company.
