People taking part in New Year swims on January 1 should realise that it will feel extremely cold, weather bureaus said on Friday.

The actual temperature will be between two and four degrees, but the strong southwesterly wind will make it feel as cold as minus five degrees, Weerplaza and Weeronline say. There may also be some rain.

The sea temperature will be around seven degrees, which is normal for the time of year.

The biggest swim takes place in Scheveningen, which will be held for the 57th time this year and will be attended by around 10,000 people. In total, some 140 swims take place around the country.
