Hospital cleaner took pictures in women’s toilet

Toilet SignA man who worked as a cleaner at Groningen University’s teaching hospital has been given one day in jail and 40 hours community service for taking photographs in the women’s toilets.

The 33-year-old had a previous conviction for the same offence, according to local news source RTV Noord. The broadcaster said the man had been thrown out of the city’s hbo college while a student in 2012 for secretly photographing female students in the washrooms.

The man came to the authorities’ attention after a hospital worker found the camera on the floor of the women’s toilets. The camera, which was white, had been attached to a wall tile so it would not be noticed.

The man, who admitted the offence, told the court he did not know why he had tried to photograph women using the bathrooms. ‘I wanted to do something which is not allowed,’ he said. ‘Everything I’ve done in my life has gone wrong.’
